Future heat supply in Aarhus - assessment of protection technologies

Ea Energy Analyses has assisted AffaldVarme Aarhus (AVA) in preparing an overall assessment of the baseload technologies investigated in connection with the Climate-adapted heating plan drawn up to ensure the CO2 neutral districting supply in the City of Aarhus. The assessment compares the following technologies with the baseline situation, which is continued coal and straw-firing at Studstrup Power Plant:

 

• Straw-fired CHP plant
• Conversion of Studstrup Power Plant to wood pellet-firing
• Combination of wind power and heat pumps
• Establishment of a heat pump connected to the electricity grid
  
  

These technologies have been selected because each of them in their own way contributes to enhancing AffaldVarme Aarhus’ objective of developing a sustainable heat supply that is environmentally friendly, cost-effective and secure.
