Cowichan Valley energy mapping and modelling

Location | May 2011 - June 2012

On behalf of the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) on Vancouver Island in Canada, Ea Energy Analyses, in conjunction with Geographic Resource Analysis & Science A/S (GRAS), has undertaking energy mapping and modelling of the CVRD.

The project aimed at shaping future development guidelines and provide critical and analytical information to the community regarding its energy resilience options. Another aim was to provide a schematic starting point for detailed site analysis for future development and to guide future infrastructure decisions and upgrades.

The project included the following tasks:

  • GIS mapping and analysis of potential renewable energy resources in the region, including wind, solar, micro hydro, biomass and waste
  • GIS mapping and analysis of regional energy consumption density
  • Analysis of potentially applicable distributed energy opportunities
  • Position papers on specific distributed energy system potentials
  • Analysis of opportunity costs and issues related to regional energy resilience
  • Energy density mapping projections

The project commenced in May 2011 and was completed in June 2012.
