Value of waste incineration in the Danish energy system

Denmark | January 2016 - April 2016

Waste incineration is a significant part of the production of district heating in Denmark, and the regulation for waste incineration is changing. EU is now allowing international trade with a number of waste fractions. Furthermore, the local companies have increased their exchange of waste.

Liberalisation of the sector is on the agenda, and Ea Energy Analyses investigated the value of waste incineration in the Danish energy system through a number of model analyses for the development in the sectors of electricity, heat and waste incineration from 2015 to 2050.

The scenarios of consequences were set under different presumptions with a focus on the value of waste incineration of imported waste in the Danish energy system in the long term.

Ea Energy Analyses carried out the project for the Danish Waste Association, and it ran from January to April 2016.
