Demand response potential in Lithuania

Baltic Sea region | June 2017 - March 2018

Acknowledging the importance of integrating demand response (DR) and energy efficiency measures in EU member states, LITGRID AB (Lithuanian TSO) and Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius AB (Lithuanian DSO) initiated a technical feasibility study of demand response services in Lithuania.

The study aimed to establish the theoretical technical feasible potentials of demand response, taking into account the different classification of DR services as well as different kinds of loads and consumer locations. This included analysis of the current situation in demand patterns and energy consumption by consumer types and identification of currently existing capacities for DR services.

The study also addressed the potential capacities and types of DR services for long term perspectives along with identifying regulatory gaps, potential integration obstacles and the technical requirements and corresponding measures (equipment) for both operators and consumers concerning DR services.

Ea Energy Analyses carried out the project in cooperation with the Lithuanian energy consultancy Ekotermija.

The project was carried out from June 2017 to April 2018.
