Input to the Viet Nam EOR 2024

Ea has provided input to the the Viet Nam Energy Outlook Report 2024 through scenario and sensitivity analyses, as detailed in the accompanying Technical Background Report. This work was carried out for the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) and Vietnam’s Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority (EREA), under the bilateral energy partnership between Viet Nam and Denmark.

Modelling and Scenario Work

The modelling covered two primary scenarios: a Baseline and a Net-zero scenario. These were analysed using an integrated modelling suite comprising TIMES, Balmorel, and PSS/E:

• Ea together with IE led the Balmorel modelling of the power sector.
• E4SMA and EML were responsible for the TIMES model, covering all energy sectors.
• IE performed the grid analysis in PSS/E

Ea’s key contributions included:

• Linking Balmorel with TIMES and PSS/E
• Enhancing the models to incorporate Net-zero scenarios
• Introducing representations of e-fuels (hydrogen and ammonia)
• Performing scenario analysis for both Baseline and Net-zero cases
• Conducting sensitivity analyses to test the robustness of results
• Co-authoring the Technical Background Report
• Providing input to the Viet Nam Energy Outlook Report 2024
