Expert meeting on electricity prices at Christiansborg

| On going - On going

Ea partner Hans Henrik Lindboe was invited to give a presentation and be part of a panel of experts at a meeting on electricity prices at Christiansborg, the seat of the Danish parliament. The panel also included experts from Energinet (Danish organisation in charge of the transmission systems in Denmark) and Green Power Denmark (Danish non-commercial business organisation).

Hans Henrik spoke about what electricity prices for users are made up of, as well as the expectations from Ea on the future marked prices, which are expected to fall by nearly 25% compared to today’s level. Model calculations from Ea Energy Analyses also show, that almost 80% of the electricity production in Europe in 2050 will be covered by wind and solar energy.

The analyses from Ea also show that Denmark will have electricity prices, which are below the European average – the main prerequisite for that is that there will be good conditions for investing in renewable energy, including offshore wind.

The meeting was held by the Climate, Energy and Supply Committee, and the participants had several follow-up questions, for instance on the future of battery parks, the influence on electricity prices from hydrogen production and data centres, tariffs, and nuclear power.

One question was about how the politicians can further the good conditions for investments. Here, the answer is primarily three things: 1) Do not change the marginal pricing of the electricity market. 2) Remove unnecessary risks involved with network connections and approval procedures, and 3) Further flexible usage at business through smart tariffication and by supporting innovative electrification.

The meeting took place on August 21, and a video recording of the meeting can be found on the website of the Danish parliament.
