Consultants from Ea Energy Analyses have been part of completing the Ethiopia Energy Outlook Report 2025, an update of the 2022 edition. The report was recently published, and the work has been carried out as a cooperation between local Ethiopian institutions, including Ministry of Water and Energy, Ethiopian Electric Utility, Ethiopian Electric Power, Petroleum & Energy Authority, the Royal Danish Embassy in Addis Ababa, and the Danish Energy Agency.
The report emphasises critical, fact-based analysis with a strong focus on economic efficiency. It includes updated topics relevant to Ethiopia’s energy landscape, such as electrification, biomass, natural gas, and electric vehicles. There are also new themes like tariffs, security of supply, and utility restructuring. The report highlights both challenges and opportunities in Ethiopia’s energy sector.

The work on the Ethiopia Energy Outlook is part of a longer commitment, Ea has had in Ethiopia. Project work goes back several years, and in the past year it has also involved Ea consultant Rune Rysbjerg Møller working for eight months in Ethiopia. Here, he carried out capacity building for local partners, and did cross-collaborations with the Embassy of Denmark in Ethiopia. Alongside Rune, a team of Ea consultants carried out analyses for the report back in Denmark.
Recent work has also involved analyses for the update of the national electrification plan for Ethiopia, with future work focusing on analyses for the next steps of the plan.
