Optimising the quality of wind power

Denmark | November 2015 - December 2015

Wind power is a cornerstone in the green transition of the power sector and onshore energy is in many cases competitive with power production based on fossil fuel. Nevertheless, it is evident that many wind farms do not perform optimally.

The purpose of this project was to illustrate how a consequent focus on quality can optimize wind farm energy production by a combination of quality efforts in wind turbine design and manufacturing, wind farm project design, and wind farm operation.

The method chosen was to calculate the impacts on the levelized cost of energy (LCoE) for a number of examples with assumptions chosen in cooperation with industry experts. The tool used is a LCoE calculator from the DEA, which allows the user to adapt all input data to a local or national context.

Ea Energy Analyses carried out the project for The Danish Energy Agency.
