Industrial energy efficiency in Egypt

Egypt | January 2014 - March 2015

Egypt has large energy resources but a steadily growing energy demand is putting supply under pressure – especially electricity supply. Furthermore, Egypt is facing a transition from subsidised energy prices and energy prices below the international market prices. Improving energy efficiency can help reduce this difficult transition.

Ea Energy Analyses and Lokalenergi were commissioned by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to assist Egypt in developing a policy framework and a 10-year roadmap for improving industrial energy efficiency in Egypt. The project was part of a larger UNIDO effort to increase energy management skills and practise within Egyptian industries.

Ea Energy Analyses and Lokalenergi worked closely together with a team of Egyptian consultants from Logic Energy and Environics. The Egyptian consultants were responsible for ensuring involvement of relevant stakeholders throughout the process while the Danish experts provided policy insights and lessons learned from other countries and frontrunners within industrial energy efficiency.
