Optimising urban planning with energy models

Denmark | September 2014 - March 2017

Urban planners are more and more involved in minimising the energy and climate impact of the municipal development.

The objective of this project was to develop an open source interactive model to allow planners to optimise urban planning with district energy, and to enable planners to evaluate different scenarios and the resulting GHG emissions reductions, energy savings and other social and economic benefits as part of the development of municipal plans.

As a part of the project, easily recognisable district energy archetypes for different types of urban form were developed, and a better understanding of the relationship between district energy and the built environment from a planner’s perspective were obtained.

Ea Energy Analyses provided expertise in energy modelling and district energy to the project, which was led by Sustainability Solution Group (SSG) in Canada.
