Mapping the Danish wood pellet market in 2016

Ea Energy Analyses has carried out a wood pellet survey of the total supply of wood pellets to the Danish market in 2016, on behalf of the Danish Energy Agency.

The study showed that wood pellet consumption in Denmark had increased with about 22% compared with the corresponding survey from 2014. The increase was seen in both large-scale coal-fired power plants, and in smaller installations in private households, as well as in industry, institutions and public services.

The study also considered wood pellet prices on the Danish market.

Methodology

The market survey information came from four studies:

• Questionnaire to Danish producers, importers and dealers of wood pellets
• Request for import information from a selection of Danish thermal plants and CHP plants using wood pellets
• Extract from the Danish Energy Producer Census (“Energiproducenttællingen”) for 2016
• Telephone interviews with industry actors
