Energy poverty alleviation – Cape Town, South Africa

Energy end use, efficiency and demand response | October 2007 - December 2007

The project involved developing a catalogue on tariff models that can be used to address energy poverty in Cape Town. The catalogue focuses on various tariff models for alleviating energy poverty in urban areas, their efficiency, strengths and weaknesses and potential costs involved. The project also investigated the implementation of energy efficiency in low income households and the establishment of an energy efficiency fund that can be accessed by low income households.

The project was carried out by Ea Energy Analyses for the City of Cape Town.
