Environmental alternatives for district heating in Aarhus

Denmark | May 2009 - February 2010

The City of Aarhus wants to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The district heating in Aarhus accounts for 18 per cent of the aggregated CO2 emissions and the district heating system in Aarhus is thus facing a number of challenges in the coming years to ensure a carbon neutral heat supply while at the same time maintaining security of supply and cost-effectiveness.

Ea Energy Analyses has assisted AffaldVarme Aarhus (AVA) in finding methods to reduce the emissions through a number of projects. This includes, for instance, analysis of large heat pumps for production of district heating, analysis of the effect of converting Studstrup Power Plant to wood-pellets as well as analysis of the possibilities of building a new biomass plant.
