Analysis of bidding zones

Denmark | November 2020 - February 2021

The electricity system is facing challenges from the green transition. Massive expansions of wind and solar power on market terms can lead to bottlenecks in the grid.

Pros and cons of handling such bottlenecks by dividing up the existing bidding zones has been analysed in this project – both for the complete system and for the specific market actors: consumers and producers.

The project was carried out from November 2020 to February 2021 for the Danish Energy Agency and made use of model results provided by Energinet.
