Modelling of green hydrogen hub

Balmorel: Power system model | October 2021 - August 2022

The Green Hydrogen Hub Denmark (GHH), a consortium comprising the three partners Eurowind Energy A/S, Gas Storage Denmark, and Corre Energy, aims to build and operate the first fully commercially viable, 100% green, large-scale hydrogen production, storage and CAES solution.

GHH requested aid in modelling the entire GHH including energy trading in the wholesale markets and potential ancillary services revenues.

As the analysis required insights into the development of different markets and different levels of operational detail, a number of models and methodologies were applied in the project including the power system model Balmorel.

The results of the analysis included estimations for

  • The value of individual components
  • The optimal configurations of the GHH system
  • The operation of the GHH for individual components
  • Costs
  • Revenue streams

A number of scenarios were analysed as part of the project, which also included sensitivity analyses to quantify the impact of various alternative scenarios.

The project was carried out from October 2021 to August 2022.
