Power market reforms in China

China | October 2019 - August 2021

Ea Energy Analyses has contributed to the NORAD sponsored programme “Power Market Reform Technical Cooperation with China”.

Ea was part of a team that provided technical assistance and knowledge sharing, based on hands-on experience of the integration of the Nordic and Continental European power market, including experiences from other international market integration and coupling projects.

The first project under this frame had the overall goal to assess and provide recommendations on a high-level design of an integrated national electricity market in China. The next project will deal with providing a suggestion for General Market Rules for the National Power Market.

Ea contributed specifically with a combination of experience with power market design and a track record of over 10 years of working on energy sector issues in China; thereby being heavily involved in translating the context of China’s power market reforms for the rest of the team and critically evaluating the proposed mechanisms through this lens.

The team was led by Nordpool Consult and had Energinet.dk and Ea as subconsultants. The project ran from October 2019 to August 2021.
