In 2020, the Danish government initiated a cooperation with the Ethiopian government on long-term energy planning and modelling.
The aim of the partnership is to build capacity at MoWIE, EEP (and other partners), within energy planning, to ensure the Ethiopian government is no longer reliant upon external input for making decisions regarding development of their power system. Additionally, programme activities provide input to the latest versions of the 10-year Ethiopian Power System Development Plan.
To meet the objective of further developing the energy planning competences of the Ethiopian modelling teams, Ea Energy Analyses has carried out training courses in the power system model Balmorel, building on the activities and capacity building from previous training courses taking place in 2020 and 2021.
Another objective was to support the update of the 10-year generation and transmission plan, including support to EEP for using Balmorel and other tools, discussion of the modelling data and assumptions, and identification relevant model improvements.
The project is carried out for the Danish Energy Agency, and it runs from September 2021 to March 2023.
