Climate plan for Gentofte

Denmark | January 2021 - June 2022

Along with 45 other municipalities, Gentofte Municipality has become a part of the second phase of the DK2020 project. Through DK2020 the municipalities commit to develop and implement climate action plans that meet the Paris agreement. This entails, amongst other things, a commitment for Gentofte Municipality to become climate neutral within its own geographic area by 2050 at the latest.

Ea Energy Analyses has contributed to the work of Gentofte Municipality on developing a climate action plan that illustrates how the municipality will meet the target. For this purpose, the following scenarios have been set up:

  • A baseline scenario based on energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions for 2018 and 2019
  • A reference scenario containing the expected national measures
  • An action scenario with the municipal measures that have been decided on
  • Target scenarios, which have been set up based on climate targets, as well as a perspective for 2050.

In addition, the most important areas of interest have been identified and sector specific milestones have been suggested.

In parallel to the scenario analyses for the whole municipality, a separate analysis with focus on carbon emissions from the buildings of the municipality has been made in the project, as the electricity and heat usage in buildings comprises 88% of the total carbon emissions in the operations of the municipality.

The project ran from January 2021 to June 2022.
